In Germany, separate classes for newcomer students, which are referred to as preparatory classes, welcome classes, preliminary courses or similar, are a common way of how to include newcomer students in school. After a certain period of time, the pupils of these classes are supposed to participate in so-called regular classes. This process of transition is a lengthy one. It starts with the preparation in the separate class and extends far beyond the first weeks in the regular class.

How this transition is prepared, structured and supported by the schools and teachers is subject of this project. Therefore, the project team will conduct and analyse expert-interviews with teachers of separate classes for newcomers. The objective is to identify supportive measures, critical moments, challenges and key factors of the transition process.
