The organizational form of the Mercator Institute is unique at the University of Cologne: It is part of the university's Faculty of Philosophy, but goes back to the initiative of Stiftung Mercator. In the Board of Trustees, decision-makers from the university and the foundation come together to clarify strategic and fundamental questions of content. Together, the members of the Board of Trustees decide on the composition of the Academic Advisory Council and the appointment of reviewers for the awarding of grants. The Board of Trustees meets once a year.
