Rebekka Wanka studied English and American Studies, Linguistics, and Roman Linguistics at the University of Wuppertal (Germany) and University of Limerick (Ireland). She graduated in 2008 in Wuppertal and worked from 2009 to 2011 at the BIFIE in Salzburg (Federal Institute of Educational Research, Innovation and Development of the Austrian School Sector) in the projects language assessment in the kindergarten and the Austrian educational standards. Afterwards, she was a lecturer in European education and research facilities as freelancer. From 2012 to 2013, she was part of the team of Prof. Dr. Karin Landerl at the University of Graz and coordinated the development of reading and orthography tasks for the Austrian Education Standards. Between 2014 and 2018, she worked in research and teaching in the Department of German Linguistics (IDSL II) at the University of Cologne as part of the team of Prof. Dr. Ulrike Domahs and Prof. Dr. Petra Schumacher. Since 2015, she has been writing her dissertation to an empirical-experimental topic of number acquisition. Since 2019, she has been part of the Mercator Institute as a research associate in the Language and Education System Department. She is mainly responsible for coordinating the project Development of a reference vocabulary for schools and she is working in the project Schule macht stark (SchuMaS).
