Jens Gerlach first studied German language and literature as well as educational sciences at the University of Cologne and graduated with a 2-subject Bachelor of Arts. This was followed by a master’s degree in general education, also at the University of Cologne, which he completed with a Master of Arts degree.
In addition to a profession-specific internship at the Institute for General Didactics and School Research of the Faculty of Human Sciences at the University of Cologne, with a focus on teaching videoography, he also gained practical experience within the media landscape while working as a realizer in the WDR editorial team “daheim +wegs”. From 2015 to 2018 he worked as a student and research assistant in the Language and Education System department at the Mercator Institute. Since January 2019 he has been working as a research assistant in the Language and Education System department. The main focus of work is the quantitative evaluation within the federal-state initiative Transfer of Language Education, Reading and Writing Support (BiSS-Transfer).
