Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Roth has been Full Professor of Educational Science with a focus on Intercultural Education Research since 2005. His research focuses on theoretical and didactic questions of intercultural education, as well as questions of bi- and multilingualism, and linguistic education. Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Roth was a member of the program executing agency in the BLK program FörMig (in German: Förderung von Kindern und Jugendlichen mit Migrationshintergrund) and later a member of the scientific advisory board of the Competence Center FörMig at the University of Hamburg. Until spring 2020, he was a member of the supporting consortium that coordinated and scientifically developed the initiative Education through Language and Literacy on behalf of the federal and state governments. Since March 1st, 2020, he has been a member of the supporting consortium of the initiative Transfer of Language Education, Reading and Writing Support (BiSS-Transfer). He is also a member of the Council for Migration and has been deputy director of the Mercator Institute since mid-2014.
